Well not quite but it could have been a very similar situation if President Obama had’nt caved in like a tin can to the Republicans…SHUT IT THE HELL DOWN was the chants that filled Washington and now filled Minnesota‘s State Government.

Minnesota’s state government has shut down for the second time in six years after political leaders couldn’t agree on how to solve a $5 billion budget deficit.

The question is CAN SHE BEAT OBAMA IN 2012? I am not sure but I think Romney would have a better chance than Bachmann…As long as she does not stray off to far right she might would have a chance…….

Michele Bachmann, a favorite of the staunchly conservative Tea Party movement, launched her bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday in a formal announcement in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.

Michele Bachman has formally announced her candidacy for the office of President of the United States. Welcome to the race Congresswoman Bachmann….

Elected in 2006, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota. From the beginning, Congresswoman Bachmann has demonstrated bold reform, pushing to fix Washington’s broken ways. Every day she puts her constitutional conservative values to work as she represents the people of Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District, a district which contains parts of six counties, stretching from Stillwater past St. Cloud, including suburbs of the Twin Cities.

Congresswoman Bachmann is a leading advocate for tax reform, a staunch opponent of wasteful government spending, and a strong proponent of adherence to the Constitution, as intended by the Founding Fathers. She believes government has grown exponentially, with ObamaCare being the most recent example of its uninhibited growth. Congresswoman Bachmann wants government to make the kind of serious spending decisions that many families and small businesses have been forced to make. She is a champion of free markets and she believes in the vitality of the family as the first unit of government. She is also a defender of the unborn and staunchly stands for religious liberties.

Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, Bachmann served in the Minnesota State Senate.  She was elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 2000 where she championed the Taxpayers Bill of Rights.  Before that, she spent five years as a federal tax litigation attorney, working on hundreds of civil and criminal cases.  That experience solidified her strong support for efforts to simplify the Tax Code and reduce tax burdens on family and small business budgets. Congresswoman Bachmann also led the charge on education issues in Minnesota calling for the abolishment of Goals 2000 and the Profiles of Learning in its school. She recognized the need for quality schools and subsequently started a charter school for at-risk kids in Minnesota.

Congresswoman Bachmann sits on the Financial Services Committee (FSC) and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The FSC is tasked with oversight of numerous financial sectors including housing, real estate and banking. This gave the Congresswoman keen insight into the housing crisis and credit crunch, leading her to be a staunch opponent of the taxpayer-funded bailout of Wall Street and the Dodd-Frank legislation. Serving on the Intelligence Committee was a welcomed opportunity for Congresswoman Bachmann as she has consistently advocated peace through strength to ensure America’s national security. As a mother of five children and 23 foster children, she has a deep appreciation for that portion of the Oath of Office in which members of Congress vow to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

In July 2010 Congresswoman Bachmann hosted the first Tea Party Caucus meeting because she saw the need for Tea Partiers to have a listening ear in Congress. She is seen as a champion of Tea Party values including the call for lower taxes, renewed focus on the Constitution and the need to shrink the size of government.

Congresswoman Bachmann is a graduate of Anoka High School and Winona State University. She received her J.D. at the O.W. Coburn School of Law at Oral Roberts University and an L.L.M. in Tax Law at the College of William and Mary. She has been married to Marcus for more than thirty years and they live in Stillwater where they own a small business mental health care practice that employs nearly fifty people. The Bachmanns have five children, Lucas, Harrison, Elisa, Caroline, and Sophia. In addition, the Bachmanns have opened their home to 23 foster children, which has inspired Congresswoman Bachmann to become one of Congress’ leading advocates for foster and adopted children, earning her bipartisan praise for her efforts.

This is going to be interesting to see these 2 tea party juggernauts slug it out in debates…..Not that I think either will win the Republican Nomination much less beat Barack Obama…They can’t win the independent & swing voters…Romney on the other hand can and that is another post…..

Minneapolis, MN U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar announced today (Tuesday, May 3) that Brigadier Gen. Tim Cossalter, former commander of the 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth, is joining her Minnesota staff as outreach director for veterans affairs and military issues.

Gen. Cossalter recently retired from the Minnesota National Guard.

“General Cossalter will help me represent and serve our Minnesota veterans, which is one of my top priorities,” said Klobuchar.  “General Cossalter has already had a distinguished career in public service, and I welcome the expertise and experience he will bring to this position.”

Gen. Cossalter is a command pilot who was commissioned in 1971.  Much of his military career has been with the 148th Fighter Wing stationed at the Air National Guard Base in Duluth.

From 1998 to 2004, he served as Commander for the 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth. From 2004 to 2006, he was Commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing in St. Paul.  Most recently, Gen. Cossalter was Assistant Adjutant General for Air with the Minnesota National Guard.

Gen. Cossalter also served two elected terms on the school board of the Esko Independent School District #99 in Carlton County.

Major General Larry Shellito, former Adjunct General of the Minnesota National Guard and now Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs commented on the appointment saying, “I consider it an excellent choice.  General Cossalter is a win-win for the State of Minnesota.  He will bring a wealth of experience to Senator Klobuchar’s office – and will be able to help her on both a statewide and national level.”

Martin Ludden, who has served as Klobuchar’s veterans outreach director since 2007, recently was appointed executive director of the Disabled American Veterans Foundation of Minnesota.  He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves and was deployed in Iraq in 2009-2010 (his second deployment in Iraq).

Earlier this year, Klobuchar was honored with the “Above and Beyond” award by the Minnesota Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for the support she and her office provided to Ludden while in Iraq by sending him care packages, checking in with his family and ensuring a smooth transition back to the office upon his return.

“Martin Ludden has been an invaluable resource for me and for Minnesota veterans,” said Klobuchar.  “He will serve the disabled veterans community well.”
