Sea burial of Osama bin Laden breaks sharia law, say Muslim scholars

Osama bin Laden‘s burial at sea was quickly criticized by Muslim scholars who claimed it had breached sharia law and warned that it may provoke calls for revenge attacks against US targets.

So what exactly is a proper burial for a “Muslim”

The deceased is then taken to the cemetery for burial (al-dafin). While all members of the community attend the funeral prayers, only the men of the community accompany the body to the gravesite. It is preferred for a Muslim to be buried where he or she died, and not be transported to another location or country (which may cause delays or require embalming the body). If available, a cemetery (or section of one) set aside for Muslims is preferred. The deceased is laid in the grave (without a coffin if permitted by local law) on his or her right side, facing Mecca. At the gravesite, it is discouraged for people to erect tombstones, elaborate markers, or put flowers or other momentos. Rather, one should humbly remember Allah and His mercy, and pray for the deceased.

They claim they buried him at sea off the deck of the deck of the USS aircraft carrier Carl Vinson. Some Islamic leaders are crying foul and that he should have been handed over to Bin Laden’s family for proper burial. Abdul-Sattar al-Janabi, who preaches at Baghdad’s Abu Hanifa mosque, said: “What was done by the Americans is forbidden by Islam and might provoke some Muslims. It is not acceptable and it is almost a crime to throw the body of a Muslim man into the sea. The body of Bin Laden should have been handed over to his family to look for a country to bury him.”

“What I think is this guy deserves no proper burial..He did not allow a proper burial of the World Trade Center victims. This guy would not hesitate to behead an American, What should have been done was his head removed and put on a large pole to the entrance to Ground Zero. Of course that is my opinion” – Steven Bravo

The news about the death of Osama bin Laden is much less important than the popular uprisings happening in the Arab world.

It is not immensely relevant considering the huge revolution in the Arab world that was probably kindled by Osama’s ideology.

If the Arab masses think that a big “terrorist” contributed massively to Arab democracy, then Obama has achieved something, the wrong way or right way, is for historians to judge, the same way Omar Mokthar was judged by Italian historians. But the Arab streets seem to say thank you to Bin Laden for the spark that he threw at them

There has been big changes through out the world since 9/11. Bin Laden always wanted to get rid of Mubarek and Ben Ali and Gaddafi and so on claiming that they were all “infidels” working for America.

We have to remember that these oppressive regimes have always been telling the Americans to keep on supporting them because they kept telling, if you don’t Al Qaeda will take over . Did Al Qaeda take over Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan and so on? What and who helped them to take over is going to be an interesting part of future historians’ research.

Celebrations in the United States over Bin Laden’s death are meaningless compared to the celebrations of the Arab masses on the successful people’s revolutions partly fuelled by the lunatic fringe called Al-Qaeda.

If we had killed Bin Laden a year or two after 9/11 the celebrations that are going on in the United States might have been more relevant.
