HE will back Alex Sink and with his 3 point added to her 37 points still puts her 6 points behind Rick Scott!

Hopes for a second Chiles as governor are gone, at least for the next four years.

Lawton M. “Bud” Chiles III is pulling out of the race and will make an announcement Thursday in a joint press conference with Democratic candidate Alex Sink, a family member confirmed.

Chiles, who comes from a long line of Democrats, had been running for governor as an independent.

A Lakeland cousin intimately involved in Chiles campaign said it was a question of money and alluded to fear that Republican candidate Rick Scott would “buy” the election with millions of dollars, such as he spent in achieving the GOP nomination.

“I was in full support of him. But I guess the days are over for running a governor’s race on a 100 buck limit,” said cousin Greg Ruthven referring to Chiles’ father, the late Lawton M. Chiles Jr. who limited the amount of money he would receive from contributors.

Ruthven, his father Joe P. Ruthven, and his brothers all worked for the Bud Chiles campaign.

“We weren’t raising the amount of money we needed. It is unfortunate the campaign didn’t catch on,” he said.
